PHP Uncensored
The entry about product creation that I was going to post today will have to wait until Monday. That's because I just launched a new PHP video package and it's called PHP Uncensored.
But there's a little bit of a twist to it. I'm following the mini-product launch formula we talked about earlier this week. Usually my PHP video packages contain: 7 scripts, 7 chapters of an e-book, and 7 videos. Retail price after all the specials are over: around $20-$30.

Videos 3 through 7 are currently CENSORED!! You don't know what's coming, but I know what's coming, and I'm telling you these are some damn cool unique and really useful scripts in the pipeline.
With PHP Uncensored, you get the first 2 scripts, chapters, and videos for $10 because that's all I've made so far. Actually that's half true, if you are on my mailing list and read my e-mails I have had two full books written (complete with scripts) but I didn't make the videos.
In a couple of days I'm going to release the third chapter and bump up the price to $12.50. Then a few days later, I'll put out the fourth chapter and bump up the price to $15.00 ... and so on, $2.50 each time, until all 7 chapters are available.
I'm offering free upgrades with this. That means when I release chapter 3, chapter 4, chapter 5, and so on, you get all those updated versions as they come out. It's your choice... you can pay $10 now and get the same thing or wait a few days and pay as much as $22.50.

Just bought it! Couldn’t resist at that price!! Free upgrades too!!! I guess Frank bruno and I, on the previous post, thought that you charged existing purchasers the higher price for the next installment … hence the comment that we wondered whether they could afford it. All explained now.
Is there an addition in there? Like an affiliate commission for the difference in price if they promote? Just a thought (I don’t have a very responsive list even though I have some 1400 on it).
I hope to be using some, if not all, of your scripts (and some I purchased previously) in the revamp of my site which is coming soon (click on my name – but not yet!).
Again how did you build a list from scratch Robert – not the theory but the actuality. That would be a pretty good post I reckon.

(with apologies to anyone who doesn’t like the film Jerry Maguire!)
I’ve had quite a few of your products and it’s an easy decision to jump in now and wait for the rest of the bundle.
Chris: I meant you would charge $10 for the original version and then offer existing customers the chance to upgrade for $1. But I guess if you do the free upgrades you give them a motivator to buy early.
I hadn’t thought about that with the affiliate commission… that would be pretty darn easy too… just capture the affiliate ID as a custom field when they subscribe to the update list, and when you give them a chance to upgrade, plug in that custom field in the order link.
I do have an upcoming blog post about how I built up my list that’s already written. It’s a 5-part series on how to break into a niche. The first part is all about list building and how my 50 sublists are setup.
Working it all into my sites now. Great stuff!

Again robert, you’re always giving me new ideas of how to generate money long-term from an opt-in list.
Not only will this keep new customers subscribed to your list, but anxiously opening up any email you sent in anticipation of news about free upgrades.
I’m one who frowns upon a list-owner using a mailing list meant specific for upgrade alerts being used for promoting every darn product under the sun. I quickly unsubscribe even at the risk of missing new upgrade announcements. Sure you won’t resort to this type of tactic?
I’m going to use this “Free Upgrade” technique myself for an ebook I’m writing. Thanks.
Kenneth: I do use my upgrade lists to send product launch announcements but it’s always for my own products.
When I launch a new product, I send that notice out to all my lists.
I can handle a small minority of unsubscribers. What I can’t handle is a stale list that goes months or years without hearing from me.
I tell myself I am careful about it. I could have charged for each upgrade if I wanted. But because they’re free, I want something in return (them on my list). They opted in after buying and always have the unsubscribe option available.
But yeah I am just as much against people who over-promote other peoples’ stuff on their lists. Luckily I am resistant to most JV offers.

I’ve figured out how to automate the whole process with a scripts I already own – so I’m gonna try it out on my next launch.
BTW, I never thanked you properly for help to make me $thousands tweaking a couple of the scripts in your PHP products last year.

If you do anything with the affiliate idea let us know. I am not a programmer (I did some Basic and Machine Code a few years ago but have only got as far as tweeking scripts – I don’t have the time at the moment as I have been assisting an ex-collegue of mine start a new part online part offline business. (I set up his back office admin in this particular niche UK market – and an old school chum of his did the website – http://www.grovefp.co.uk – Been up and running since 19 June 2007 and moved offices once and taken on an admin person – turnover has already hit just short of GBP200,000 – approx $400,000 – all from just the website and Google Adwords – its expensive though). Shortly I will hopefully have more time to do my own thing!
